1,3 Dioxolane

1,3-dioxolane is also called glycol methylene ether, glycol formal or 1,3-dioxacyclopentane. It is a clear, volatile liquid that is miscible with water. 1,3-Dioxolane is a chemical compound from the group of oxygen heterocycles and is isomeric to 1,2-dioxolane. One can also regard the compound as a cyclic acetal. 1,3-dioxolane is obtained by the reaction of ethylene glycol with formaldehyde. It is used, for example, as a solvent and for the preparation of modified polyoxymethylenes. 1,3-Dioxolane has a molar mass of 74.08 g / mol and a density of 1.06 g / cm. The melting point is -26.4 ° C, the boiling point at 74 ° C, the vapor pressure at 114 mbar (20 ° C) and the refractive index at 1.401 (20 ° C). 1,3-Dioxolane is highly flammable as a liquid and as a vapor and causes severe eye irritation.
